Wow! What an experience. I have always wanted to go to Australia and it certainly did not disappoint. We flew with Emirates through Dubai to Adelaide where we stayed in a lovely hotel right on the beach at Glenelg, this attractive little town was the perfect place to relax after the long flight.
Then it was on to Melbourne, I really loved this city & our hotel was right by the river in Southbank, a vibrant area full of restaurants, bars & café’s. After three nights in Melbourne it was off to Sydney where we saw the iconic sights of Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Opera House and the beautiful harbour. Another city full of life & culture in a beautiful setting.
We then flew to Cairns where the climate is tropical and very different to Sydney. Here it was time to visit The Great Barrier Reef. What an amazing sight! For those not wanting to get wet there are glass bottomed boats and even submersibles so you can still view the coral.
Whilst in Cairns we visited an Aboriginal Cultural Centre and enjoyed the songs and stories of the indigenous people. Our trip over the canopy of the rain forest by cable car was quite something and also the train ride back down from the village of K
We opted to extend our visit to include Uluru (Ayres Rock) and Alice Springs. Uluru is as amazing as it appears on photographs. The Olgas are also an incredible mountain range of the same magnificent red rock. We, like everyone else got up at 4am to watch the sunrise and the rocks change colour. I am so glad we went there, it was a once in a lifetime experience.
Our stay in Alice Springs was interesting as we visited the School of the Air and ate dinner out in the bush where our musical entertainment included Waltzing Matilda!
Our flight from Alice Springs was though Perth where we had time to explore a little before our overnight flight to Dubai. Perth is an attractive city and it would have been nice to have stayed longer.
We arrived in Dubai at 5am but had booked our rooms for the previous night, well worth the additional cost as we could use them immediately. What a beautiful hotel and a wonderfully relaxing end to our holiday. It really made all the difference and we managed to see some of Dubai also.
