Bay Travel can help you plan your city break either in the UK to for example to London, Edinburgh, Bath or York the list is endless. Or maybe you would prefer to go a little further afield to Europe. With many interesting destinations within a two to three hour flight from either Manchester or Liverpool it can be a problem deciding where to go.
One of our staff recently went to Budapest in Hungry for a two night break with three friends.
I would really recommend Budapest for an interesting city break, we flew from Manchester early on a Friday so were able to make the most of our first day in the city. Our return flight was early evening so again were able to utilise most of the day.
Budapest is made up of two cities Buda & Pest one on either side of the River Danube though now it is one city and has been for many years. Our 3* hotel was quite central and very comfortable and close to many restaurants and cafes.
We booked a hop on hop off bus tour soon after we arrived and the ticket lasted for 48 hours and also included a river cruise. We really made good use of the bus using it as our transport throughout the visit.
Budapest has many magnificent buildings one being the Parliament buildings probably viewed best from the river.
We visited Heroes Square amongst other interesting place, and for us, four women a visit to the New York Cafe attached to the Boscolo Hotel was a must. It really has to be seen to be believed, cake and a local sparkling wine was enjoyed by all.
We were determined to visit one of the thermal baths in the city with eight geothermal springs here there are a number to choose from. We visited Szechnyi Baths built in 1913 with its large outdoor thermal pool and numerous smaller indoor pools at different temperatures. Quite an experience though it wasn't the easiest place to navigate.
We had really good food throughout the tour eating in local restaurants but beware the portions at least where we ate were quite large.
I intend at some point to return to the city to explore more as we only had two nights we only scratched the surface of what is a very interesting place but thoroughly recommend the city for a short break.
We love to travel, and we’ll give you advice on how to best spend your holiday, whether it’s abroad or in the UK
